Therapists are ideal for those seeking help with a mental illness. Wellness coaches are good for those who want to achieve goals and improve their overall well-being, and they can also help to address and help build healthy habits so you can prevent feelings of stress, overwhelm, decision fatigue, and burnout.
Nationally Board Certified Health & Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC) are governed by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching As stated on their website:
"Health and wellness coaches work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to develop and achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Coaches support clients in mobilizing internal strengths and external resources, and in developing self-management strategies for making sustainable, healthy lifestyle, behavior changes.
While health and wellness coaches per se do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or provide psychological therapeutic interventions, they may provide expert guidance in areas in which they hold active, nationally recognized credentials, and may offer resources from nationally recognized authorities such as those referenced in NBHWC’s Content Outline with Resources.
As partners and facilitators, health and wellness coaches support their clients in achieving health goals and behavioral change based on their clients’ own goals and consistent with treatment plans as prescribed by individual clients’ professional health care providers. Coaches assist clients to use their insight, personal strengths and resources, goal setting, action steps and accountability toward healthy lifestyle change.”
Adults who are contemplating a change in their life- who have not been successful in sustained change. We all have untapped potential, that with the right tools and support, can take us to a level of wellness and wholeness we may not have imagined. While ambivalence is very normal when initiating lifestyle change, wellness coaching is not appropriate for those who are completely resistant to changing. Basically, anybody who is ready to make a change would benefit from a wellness coach relationship.

Coaching is not yet covered by major health plans. However, you may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) funds to pay for health and wellness coaching services. We can provide you with information to assist in your quest to determine whether your account accepts these charges. Additionally, some employers offer wellness stipends that can be used for this purpose.
